The Indonesian Dental Health Foundation's programmed
can be divided into three big headings:
1. School Dental Health Services. Or UKGS
2. Dental Services
3. Dental Health Education Section
I.
The School Dental Health Services
To improve the
society's dental health and achieve an optimal dental
health, which includes personal hygiene and responsibility
towards one's health at the any time the dental profession
will aspire to make dental services available for
all strata in the society at the same time improving
dental consciousness through health education starting
as soon as the child goes to or playgroup, kindergarten
and primary school this age group is deliberately
chosen because it is the age where the first permanent
dentition in these school years (from (6 to 12 years
of age)).
The
aims of the School dental services are:
- To improve dental health through (prevention
and health education)
- To improve dental awareness and habit formation
through dental health education
- To provide the necessary treatment with a selective
approach
- To provide dental services with a prepayment system
The
implementation of the School Dental Services :
- A yearly survey is held at the beginning of the
school year, recording deft and DMFT and OHI-S
- Dental Health Education is inserted in the school
curriculum and time table using the foundation's
specially designed booklets
- Yearly evaluation of knowledge and monitoring oral
hygiene
II.
Dental Services
For the adults
a simple clinic with the most necessary services are
made available in the morning for socially deprived
patients. In the afternoon the facilities of the clinic
are used for a private practice, half of the income
of which is used to finance the social services.
III. Dental Health Education Section
In the year 1978
the foundation spread its activities through the formation
of a Dental Health Education Section to spread its
concepts on Dental Health Education with Dental Health
Educational materials and aids. All materials used
in the schools were collected edited and spread for
the use of other school dental services. Booklets
for the Kindergarten and Primary Schools turned out
very much wanted and orders for these Dental Health
Educational Section produces simple said like posters,
flashcards and flipcharts, and produced pamphlets,
later on the produced slides for parents and teachers,
booklets on prevention for the dental nurse schools
and one collection of lectures for dental students

We hope to be able to share our experience with anybody
interested and try to help other school and dentists
to begin their own school dental services based on
health education and prevention, from our records
we spread about 25.965 books to all provinces of Indonesia.
